Amy Creason, CMB
Cofounder of CapitalW Collective
Secretary, Board of Directors
Joining a mortgage trading desk right out of college, Amy is what she refers to as a “cradle” mortgage capital markets participant. Amy knew little about the mortgage industry when she took that first position in her youth, but she appreciates the long and varied career she has enjoyed. In a space for which training has been mostly on-the-job, Amy has been fortunate to have many mentors, allies, and advocates who have given their time and talent to encourage her pursuit of learning and exploration.
Amy began her career as an analyst with Fleet Mortgage Corp. where she acquired knowledge of pipeline risk management, fundamental and technical trading, financial performance, mergers and acquisitions, and the adoption of emerging capital markets technology platforms. At SunTrust Mortgage, Amy expanded her skill sets in the period before, during, and after the Great Recession, especially in the areas of whole loan trading, contract finance, investor relations, private-label securitization, and counterparty risk management. Amy discovered her passion for business development, relationship management, and client solutions in her pivot to consulting when she joined Newbold Advisors to manage a variety of mortgage capital markets engagements. Most recently, Amy enjoyed collaborating with hedge advisors and secondary marketing technology providers to optimize pricing and loan sale efficiencies for the benefit of mutual Freddie Mac clients.
Amy is a Class of 2000 Mortgage Bankers Association Future Leaders graduate. She earned the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) in 2010.
The creation of a non-profit purposed to educate and develop women in mortgage capital markets has been an idea Amy incubated for many years. Concerned by the disproportionate impact on women’s careers following the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with an already low ratio of women-to-men in mortgage capital markets, Amy was animated to seek resources and partners to formally launch an initiative to engage, educate, and support women.
Residing in Richmond, Virginia with her husband, Mark, and their two adored canine children, Amy is mother to three beloved and wonderful adult human children. With family and friends, she enjoys boating on the Rappahannock River, gardening, painting, crafting, and sharing frequent, soul-shaking belly laughs with others.
